Right now as I am blogging in my kitchen at home I am wishing I was back in the mountains. Let me start by saying… YES, I know we are lucky. Matt’s parents own a lovely mountain home in Georgetown which is close to Denver but also close to Breck and Vail which makes it perfect! IN fact our home is at the base of Guanella Pass and when we walk out the back door this stunning trail awaits! (this is me and my mother-in-law last summer)
Georgetown has the perfect small town mountain feel with unlimited outdoor activities. You can also ride the Georgetown Loop Railroad which we have done many a times and that is always great fun! It’s also fun over time how we have made friends with the locals because I guess we are part time locals!
Georgetown is covered in historic buildings much like this one and in fact 1/2 the picturesque victorian homes were built in the 1800s! This past weekend Matt and I took a new walking ghost tour around town and we learned so many fun facts about the history of several homes and how Georgetown was truly a Wild West mining town with no laws for some time! I just eat up all that history.
Our home is 1 block from the main downtown street and only 1 block from this awesome local brewery! We always take our houseguest here and it is always a hit of course! Something I love is the local library is continually having a old book sale in their basement for like $1 books, I always manage to come home with a few!
This weekend Matt and I biked around the Georgetown lake over 4miles all together and any butt is feeling it today! ha! This mountain bike is in fact my bike from when I was 12! Can you believe it? I now know I desperately need to upgrade the seat but it was so much fun! We also took the dogs on some walks around town, watched Netflix, cooked out and just relaxed together which we haven’t done in what seems like so long!
Something I LOVE about the mountains is during the day it was hot but the nights and mornings are cool and perfect! We had coffee and breakfast outside both mornings just listening to the creek by the house and looking out onto the tree lined mountain! It truly is good for the soul!
Sunday before joining the traffic of all the weekenders going back to the city we went kayaking! We drove up Guanella Pass and at the top is Clear lake which is so great! I have this irrational fear of bodies of water so kayaking for me is this middle ground between freaking out I will fall in and truly loving every minute! HA, we all have our own things we don’t we?
Matt and I plus our dogs had a really nice weekend and I HIGHLY recommend you all check out Georgetown if you are in Colorado and in fact I will meet ya there!!
