Her name is Dinah. In the Bible, her life is only hinted at in a brief and violent detour within the more familiar chapters of the Book of Genesis. In The Red Tent, Anita Diamant brings this fascinating biblical character to vivid life.
Told in Dinah’s voice, the novel reveals the traditions and turmoils of ancient womanhood—the world of the red tent. It begins with the story of Dinah’s mothers—Leah, Rachel, Zilpah, and Bilhah—the four wives of Jacob. They love Dinah and give her gifts that sustain her through a hard-working youth, a calling to midwifery, and a new home in a foreign land. Dinah’s story reaches out from a remarkable period of early history and creates an intimate connection with the past.
The Red Tent is probably one of the biggest books you have never heard of! Over 3.3 million copies sold with legions of fans this story finally became a movie thanks to Lifetime. This book is loved by my Book Club in Okc and loved by me, a story taken from the pages of the Bible and given life. The past 2 nights on Lifetime the 2 part movie version of the Red Tent came to life on screen. I loved every minute of this movie. The cast is incredible lead by Minnie Driver, Morena Baccarin who I loved in Homeland, veterans from Game of Thrones and an amazing leading lady who had you feel every emotion she portrayed!
This story is told thru the eyes of Dinah and it is filled with love, family, history and the strength few women had many years ago.
I am sure this will be on repeat for the rest of the week and I highly recommend you DVR this!! If you missed this, you really missed out.
