Liked and Loved

A breathtaking story set against the volatile events of Afghanistan’s last 30 years—from the Soviet invasion to post-Taliban rebuilding—that puts the violence, fear, hope and faith of this country intimate, human terms…….

I read the Kite Runner years ago and I am not sure why it took me so long to open up A Thousand Splendid Suns. This is one of those books that is not only an incredible story but I feel like I learned something and I was immersed into a new culture. This book is my favorite out of Khaled Hosseini’s three books, this book I couldn’t wait to read and that is the best feeling ever…isn’t it? This book for me had 1 theme……women. Everyday we are so lucky as women to be born in a free country, I too take it for granted. The fact that women all over are punished just for being girls is something I can barely wrap my head around. This book weaves a beautiful story of 2 woman in the Middle East and I really think you should give it a try!

In this tale revolving around not just parents and children but brothers and sisters, cousins and caretakers, Hosseini explores the many ways in which families nurture, wound, betray, honor, and sacrifice for one another; and how often we are surprised by the actions of those closest to us, at the times that matter most. Following its characters and the ramifications of their lives and choices and loves around the globe

This is Hosseini’s latest book and current bestseller that is once again set in the Middle East. Like before, this “genre” of books set in the Middle Eastern culture is new to me and I love experiencing something new. This book was an epic story but for me sadly fell flat. This book not only bounced around from characters and countries but times also. One chapter in say 1990 then the next in 1950s then to the 70s……I found it very hard to connect the timeline and really connect with the characters. It was enjoyable and you should by all means read it…..hey, who knows…maybe I was in a weird reading mood!

Two weekends ago we saw Now You See Me thanks to all my FB friends for the FAB suggestion! This movie was fun, clever and most importantly entertaining. I loved everyone who starred in this movie and just when I thought I knew what was happening…..I didn’t! If you don’t see this in theaters then add it to you “rent” list!

Now…………behold………….a movie I have been looking forward to for quite some time……World War Z! There is no beating around the bush….I LOVED this movie. This movie wasn’t a horror but a thriller, a thriller filled with action that kept me on my toes! Brad Pitt is perfect in this playing a loving father but also someone who specializes in “tracking” outbreaks. This movie was right up my alley and I just might say it……ONE of the best movies I have seen this year!!!!! Go see it!

This book sounds like a great read! Thanks for the suggestion! And I'm WAY too chicken to watch World War Z. Any of those end of the world kind of movies scare me to death!
