Smoky Turkey Chili

The thing I am finding out about WW recipes is that since this is not a diet but a lifestyle change…..changing out good for better and portion control..that I am LOVING the recipes! That is what I needed to still be able to enjoy the kitchen and so far I have! Last night I made the best meal I have in awhile!!! I have to share it with you and I made some changes for the better that I will add…….

Smoky Turkey Chili

Ingredients
1 pound ground, skinless turkey breast (be sure it is 99% fat free ground white meat!)
1 yellow onion, chopped
1 red pepper, chopped
4 cloves of garlic, chopped or crushed
3 (15.5 ounce) cans of white beans (I used pinto and great northern)
1 (14.5 ounce) dices tomatoes (I used Fire Roasted)
1 cup ketchup
1 (4.5 ounce) can diced green chiles ( I used 2 cans)
3 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke (I omitted this because the taste is not very good and it was great without it)
chopped fresh parsley and/or cilantro
1 tablespoon smoked paprika (I added)
Directions:

The directions were very vague and I didn’t like the idea of the meat in a sense boiling in the crock pot so here is how I changed it up….

* Brown onion, garlic and red pepper in pan with 1 tsp EVOO and add to crock pot

* Brown the turkey meat in pan and season with S&P then add to pan
1. Combine all ingredients in your slow cooker.
2. Cook on low 6-8 hours.

Serving Size:
1 1/2 cups = 5 PointsPlus

This note was in the WW cookbook and I don’t mind if I do: Add 2 tablespoons of fat free sour cream and 2 tablespoons of fat free cheddar cheese will increase PointsPlus value by 1

Let me know if you try this…..in fact I am off to the kitchen to eat this for lunch today! Yumm
