Food for Thought?!

So one of the many magazines I get each month is Self and they had an interesting article last month that I decided to chit chat about! It is called “FOMO” = Fear Of Missing Out! They state that this is 100% brought on by social media ( I agree)…

“On the rare night that you’re grateful for a quiet evening in, you see a Facebook photo of your pals partying (no one invited you!) or a friend’s check-in at a cool new bar and you’re bummed…”

Self (the mag, not me)

They also go on to talk about how the majority of people only present the “glossy” “upbeat” version of themselves online which leads us to feel like we don’t measure up……and how that leads to us being unsatisfied with our own lives from time to time?! I completely agree with the article BUT I think that on FB and your blog you can talk about what you are thankful for and how great your life as I do too from tim to time! But when that is all we hear and see you have to wonder…..I know I know who wants to announce the bad? I see both sides but how many times have you logged into Facebook and seen someone for the millionth time talk about how they are the “luckiest person in the whole wide world, God could not have made their life more perfect, they are so blessed, their kids and husband are truly perfect………” and that goes on and on! And I am sorry but I don’t buy it (most of the time)! I personally truly try to be real with this blog I don’t mind talking about the great, the good, the bad and the sad! I try to be relatable (try?)!! I try because I know that this bugs me and I don’t want others to feel the same way about me.

What are your thoughts on this article? Is this stupid? True? Do you disagree? Do you have “FOMO”?

I think the article is spot on and I agree with you 100%. I try to show the real me on my blog. I hope I accomplish that.

yup i agree with the article, it is usually what you want to put up whether it is the true you or not, i think some people want others to think their is perfect or they have so many "besties" true friends call you on the phone, not write on your facebook wall

I totally agree with you too! That's why I love doing my blog b/c I can be 100% real and share the good and bad. And yes, I don't really pay much attention either when people constantly post that b/c we all know, life is not perfect all the time!

I also think the opposite is true. Some people ONLY share the bad, "I'm sick again." "I'm alone again." Blah, blah, blah…or say cryptic things to get people to try to ask. Just keep it real! LOL. Happy Holidays!
