Coronado Island

The Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell
Four US Navy SEALS departed one clear night in early July 2005 for the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border for a reconnaissance mission. Their task was to document the activity of an al Qaeda leader rumored to be very close to Bin Laden with a small army in a Taliban stronghold. Five days later, only one of those Navy SEALS made it out alive

I read Lone Survivor the week before my vacation and I gave my brother a copy of the book as a gift, although it may sound terribly sad it is a very heroic and amazing story. My brother who is a Marine trains on Coronado Island as do the Navy Seals and there is an extensive part of the book that talks about the base and training on Coronado. So I just LOVED it when on Saturday night after dinner we took a tour of Coronado Island. I loved being in the setting of a book I had just finished…..a book that will soon be a movie I might add.

This is the million $$ view of San Diego Bay from Coronado Island, this view is why people pay over 10 million to live on this Island. Yes, this small island houses 2 bases Marine & SEAL, one of the most amazing beaches (Imperial), amazing houses and the famous (famously haunted) Hotel Del Coronado!

The night sky was amazing and the weather was a cool 65 as we toured the Island…..

I played photographer this night and was happy to just take everything in. Coronado Island is my brothers favorite place in all of San Diego and it is now mine too.

The book the Lone Survivor was amazing and I think this is a book that everyone should read and if you ever have the chance do NOT miss out on a chance to go to Coronado Island! I hope I will be back!
