To start off today’s Thankful Thursday I am Thankful that I have the option to work at home, when the roads are covered in ice it is nice to be warm inside. Here is my set up, I love looking out the window at the snow….
I am thankful for JH and my position as Community Outreach this past weekend was a very important JH weekend and the biggest thing other than our grants that I plan all year. A labor of love for sure! We hosted our annual Girl Talk event with the girls from Emerson High School and this year we called it “A Day Away”. These girls are all teen moms and are working hard to stay in school and continue their educations. As an incentive, they are rewarded at the end of the first semester with this weekend get-away. A weekend where they can be teenagers.
We start Saturday morning after the slumber party with breakfast and some ice breaker games……
We also help them make a few crafts that my friend Becky came up with and taught! This year they made the cutest tote bags and then a picture frame to hold the group picture from the event!
They had a ball and to see the smiles and care free faces makes this SO worth while!
We also send them home with shirts from the event that they get to wear to school that Monday and “Swag Bags”!!! Here they are in my living room after I made them! They were FULL of amazing gifts and to see there face as they go thru it is sooo fun!
Something that has become a little bit of a tradition is the “dance”! It is nice that I get to use my talent to help others once a year. I make up a cute, easy and fun dance to teach not only the girls but my JH ladies also. We laugh, feel silly and in the end have the best time! Here is a video of the dance…….To the Black Eyed Peas of course……
What are you Thankful for today?
