Rudeness Wins?

The Today Show is doing a series all week called Is Civility Dead? And this has really struck a nerve with me! When did everyone get so rude? When did people stop saying Thank You? And Why?
Currently some things are ALWAYS bugging me………..
1. There was a wedding Matt and I could not attend so I sent a nice gift….and NEVER received a Thank You. Matt got a verbal “Hey Thanks Man” but me? nothing! It is rude and so disrespectful…I spent my time getting online finding a gift, paying to have it shipped to you, gift wrapped and you can not take 2minutes to slap a Thank You card together?
2. I ALWAYS, I mean always hold the door open for people and I go out of my way to always do so for elderly people and what do I get in return? NOTHING…people can not even say Thanks. I do not understand if these elderly people think it is my duty and I deserve no thanks but it bugs me. Say Thank You it takes 5 seconds or less!
3. I loathe it when people do not hold the door for you when you are RIGHT behind them and the door gets slammed in my face…I usually very loudly say THANK YOU thinking they will get the point for next time.

You know I could go on and on … about driving rudeness, cell phone rudeness but this post would be too long and I would be writing all day. Let me say I am not being boastful about my manners (another thing that bugs) I am saying that I really try to be kind daily and to smile at people and engaging. We all have bad days when I may not be the “nice person” but I try!  And this is not a “teenage” problem I usually have these problems with people much older than me. Watch the clip from The Today show this morning………..

Well friends this is all “Food for Thought”…..and I challenge you ALL during this month of Thankfulness to go out of your way to be kind and nice to others and maybe this will spread? Hold the door open for at least one person a day, give 1 nice compliment a day and say Thank you once a day …who knows maybe this will catch on and the people who NEED to be reading this will get a hint!

Seriously! The boy I care for is a super sweet kid (he's 9,) but it's like he never learned the very basics of courtesy. In my mind, by age 5 or the concept of saying please, thank you, and may I instead of I want, chewing with your mouth closed, etc. should be pretty well cemented. It takes daily reminders to make sure these basics of politeness are met. Makes me batty. People in general in Utah are pretty nice – or at the very least they aren't outwardly rude – but it's such a different world from the south where everyone waves as they drive by and holds doors open without a second thought.

Agreed and agreed! The cell phone manners, or lack of, really bother me. And I will confess, I'm guilty sometimes too!!
