Do you….

Ever work for hours on a meal that is really good but once you actually sit down to eat it you are no longer interested? This happens to me all the time, I will slave in the kitchen and get so excited but the minute I sit down to eat dinner with Matt I no longer feel like eating. It is so sad actually but I guess the point is for Matt or my family to love what I made….but is it too much to ask for me to enjoy my work as well?
Last night I made a wonderful meal with recipes from Giada, I made roasted pork loin with a smokey pepper sauce, cheese pop overs and roasted garlic mash potatoes and it was so good…..but I did not enjoy it. THEN, I made dessert; Pumpkin pecan cookies with a Maple glaze and my “glaze” decided to soak into the cookies instead of sitting nicely on top! BOO! They look awful but still taste good! I brought some up for my co-workers and I see them giving these odd little cookies the “eye”! Oh well………..you can’t win them all!

That happens to me all the time. It's awful, I spend so much time slaving away and then have no desire to eat.

That happens to me too! It is so frustrating working so hard – especially when you know the end product is so tasty and your family/friends are enjoying it. Just like you said – it's great that the meal turned out well and everyone likes it, but its a shame that you can't enjoy it with them! I've found that not snacking/sampling while I cook helps a little, and if it's a meal that I have to make ahead of time and cook the next day I still really enjoy it. 🙂 At least you know you're a great cook!

If they only knew how good your food is, they would look at those ugly cookies and gobble them up. Boy are they missing out.

I do this too! I agree, don't sample the food while you are cooking it. I think it ruins it for me once it's finished. Also, I am a 'gift giving' person as are you, so I think it's easy to make this amazing meal for your loved ones and put so much energy into it that by the time it's done, you can be burnt out. Which is okay, it's hard trying to please everyone all the time!
