Do animals have souls? Some of our greatest thinkers–Aristotle, Plato, Thomas Aquinas–and countless animal lovers have been obsessed with this question for thousands of years. Now New York Times bestselling author Jon Katz looks for an answer and finds even more questions as he recounts the lives and stories of the residents of his celebrated Bedlam Farm
I picked this book up on a table at Barnes and Noble and you see why I was drawn to it!!! I read this in 2 quick days, it was an easy and enjoyable read. No, this book is not a sob story but more of an enjoyable account of this writers life on his farm and the love for his animals. The main animal Katz writes about is his dog Rose, a Boarder Collie (pictured above). Rose worked the farm with him and it did bring up emotions and memories from Rusty, my family Boarder Collie who recently passed. Rose is an amazing dog just like my beloved Rusty was. Here is my favorite quot from the book….
“I sometimes think that the soul of a dog can only be seen in it’s human mirror- in us, and the boundless way we love these creatures”
