Rusty always wore a bandanna and he was so handsome, so I asked mom to find me one of his favorites that was really worn so I could keep it. I was able to get this green one and it still smells like him. We have decided what to do with him and where his final resting place will be and I will share that with you… Yesterday a wonderful pet funeral home (Pet Memories) came to pick Rusty up and today around noon Rusty will be cremated wearing a bandanna along with his favorite toy. My parents have also picked out a beautiful urn. Rusty’s favorite place was my parents lake house, he loved being on the boat and in the water…so we will be burying Rusty’s urn at the lake. We are also having a tombstone made, this way Rusty will always get to watch the sunset over the water. I do know that this is only Rusty’s earthly body his soul is already in heaven. And yes, we are all still in mourning this isn’t something where you just wake up the next day and resume life.

Once again Rusty DuBois you are missed and our hearts are so filled with love for you that is why they ache.

I hope you and your family are doing okay 🙁 I didn't even make it halfway through this one without crying. My childhood dog passed away two years ago last month – I was up visiting my dad today and saw Buddy's chain and dog tags hanging with my dad's dog tags over his retirement shadowbox and I thought of you and Rusty. His resting place sounds beautiful, I'm sure he knew/knows how much you love him.

I know it's so hard. Oddly though, time does make it a little better. So glad you all are doing the urn and headstone at the lake. What a great way to keep his memory alive.
