“It happened fast. Thirty-two minutes for one world to die,
another to be born.”
First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.
As civilization swiftly crumbles into a primal landscape of predators and prey, two people flee in search of sanctuary. FBI agent Brad Wolgast is a good man haunted by what he’s done in the line of duty. Six-year-old orphan Amy Harper Bellafonte is a refugee from the doomed scientific project that has triggered apocalypse. He is determined to protect her from the horror set loose by her captors. But for Amy, escaping the bloody fallout is only the beginning of a much longer odyssey—spanning miles and decades—towards the time and place where she must finish what should never have begun.
Finally!!!! 3 weeks and 800 pages later I have finished The Passage! Whew! This book was different than so many I read, this was so indept and complex that I really need to read it again to fully grasp everything that went on. Justin Cronin and this novel is being compared to Steven King and has been in the Top 10 of the NY Times best seller all summer thus far. I am usually a very fast reader but this one took me longer than normal due to the complex story line and all the characters, I almost needed a character log to keep everyone straight. This book is also divided up into different parts (sections/chapters) and 300 pages in the story line shifts 100 years in the future and you are re-introduced to all NEW people….but the earlier story line finds it’s way back in. This was a thriller and was so intriguing….the tag line is “Where will you be when the lights go out“. This book is still on my mind, like “What If?” Could something like this ever happen?
I highly recommend this book, I don’t think this is a “beach Read” but it was soo good and is going to be a trilogy. I am looking forward to book 2!!! To find out more you can check out his site by clicking HERE!
