Ronald McDonald House

Last night Matt’s whole family and myself provided the meal for the families who are staying at the Ronald McDonald house….and the saying is true sometimes doing great acts of kindness is a little bit selfish! I think we all left feeling really full filled and full of love. The RMH is a house for families who have a child or loved one on an extended stay at the hospital, this way they do not have to stay in a costly hotel. You can learn more about the RMH by clicking Here !!

We got to use their very nice kitchen and above is my little Sister in Law Colby working the drink station! Below is a picture of Matt and his family getting the meal set up. We served Sloppy Joes, pasta salad, baked beans, chips and 2 desserts!

This is part of the dining room and one of the Christmas trees on display so the families can feel a little more at home during the holidays!

This is my Brother in Law Landon buttering buns before we toast them…speaking of toasty, the kitchen was like a million degrees last night!HA

I made the two desserts for the 20-25 people we were told to prepare for… I made my YUMMY Brown Sugar cake and then Funfetti cupcakes!! I love to decorate cupcakes and I think the families liked them also!

Below is the main “living room” at the RMH and pictured is Matt and a cancer patient Bob whom we had the pleasure of getting to know. Bob just turned 18 this past spring and had enlisted in the Marines when he broke his hip. During his scan they found out he had Bone Marrow Cancer. He has been living here for the last 8 months. Cute story…he loves XBox and really wanted Call of Duty 2 so while we were serving dinner Matt ran to Walmart and bought him the game as a Christmas present from everyone! He was touched and so were we.

Here I am being cheesy for the camera………… Merry Christmas!

Now my Mother In Law made the BEST sloppy Joe’s and I must share her recipe……………..

Micki’s Sloppy Joes

1 lb hamburger
2 T butter
2 T mustard
2 T brown sugar
1 T Worcestershire sauce
¾ c. Ketchup
2 teas. Salt
Onion

Brown the hamburger and onion in butter, drain. Mix the remaining ingredients together and pour over hamburger. Heat together for awhile to blend flavors.

Above is my other Sister in Law, Jennifer helping with the clean up! Overall it was a wonderful night to spend with Matt’s family while doing good for others! You and your family should call and sign up for a night you will be glad you did!
Happy Holidays Friends!

I found this info on their site, that is such a WONDERFUL idea! Family Meal ProgramPrepare a home-cooked meal for families staying at RMHC (usually 25-30 guests). The Family Meal Program is a great chance to give back because many of the families here are unable to prepare meals since they may be in the hospital or at doctor's appointments all day. Great opportunity for individuals, small groups, organizations, and/or local restaurants! Bring in a pot of soup or prepare a meal in our well-equipped kitchen. (Meals may also be prepared offsite and delivered). This may be a one-time volunteer opportunity or scheduled on an ongoing basis. For more information call Vicki for details: (405) 424-6873.
