My brain is bigger than your brain

Good Friday Afternoon to you………………….. This morning I started my day with my first Pumpkin Latte of the season!! It was a real treat as I headed to my neurologists office for a follow up visit! Above is a picture of the lobby at Mercy Institute of Neuroscience and below is my actual doc Dr. Kaplan and if you click on his picture you will be directed to his website!

We chit chatted awhile about how I have been feeling and how my new meds are helping and I was explaining to him that I do feel a bit better, this has been a good month but I am still afraid to say that this is working or improving my quality of life…. so we are giving this dosage another month while I keep a Migraine log before we change anything up or increase my dosage! Next we discussed my MRI and as I figured everything looked normal I have no sign of tumors or abnormalities except for one thing………… are you ready for this??? My brain is bigger than your brain! No really, my brain stem is 4millimeters longer than everyone else! HA, All these years I have been telling Matt I have an elephant brain and I can remember everything well come to find out my brain stem is long! HA, but for real here is the deal and try to stay with me on this…………
I was born with this and like 1 in some odd millions of people have this where on a normal brain your brain stem stops at the base of your skull, you then have cartilage followed by your spinal cord where as my brain stem seeps into my spinal cord by 4millimeters an overlapping if you will! So when I was explaining to him that the base of my skull gets sore and I get intense migraines there this maybe the culprit for these unusual migraines. You see whenever you get a sore neck I have a smidge of brain stem in there that can also get sore, travel up and cause me to get the odd back head migraines! Anyways, we will have to occasionally monitor this throughout life and there is no real studies done on this so time will tell.

SO there you have it……..my brain is bigger than your brain!!!

Love, love, love the new blog picture. And, how awesome that you have a BIG brain. I find it so funny how much we have in common…no, my actual brain doesn't measure larger…but, it's been a running joke in my family that I have a big brain. So much so, that my mom called me Cerebellum when I was younger ( a play on Sara)…geez, we are so much alike.
