Jalapeño Steak Tacos

Hey Friends Welcome to Tasty Thursday!! I have made this meal twice now because we LOVE it so much! And I must say that I am pretty excited to share with you my SECRET!!!!!!!
Let's start with the marinade:

Flank Steak Marinade

My secret IS......drumroll................ I use the microplane and microplane one entire jalapeño! It creates this paste and makes the flavor so intense! Make sure you get it all off the microplane!
Then microplane 1 large garlic clove as well!!!!
I know the marinade looks weird but it OH SO GOOD!
Here are the rest of the ingredients
1/2 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1/4 cup Lime juice
Salt and Pepper
1 teaspoon Cumin
Mix really well...............
Put your flank steak into a ziplock bag and add the marinade! Let this refrigerate at least 1 hour but could be as long as 4 hours!!!!!
Next up I think all tacos need something crunchy and I have been in luck.... my garden is full of Radishes! Here is my recipe for "Faux Pickled Radishes"
Slice up 1-2 radishes depending on how many people who are feeding!
Then in a jar mix 3 Parts Apple Cider Vinegar to 1 Part Water
Then add Salt and Pepper and 1 teaspoon sugar
Mix up and refrigerate for 1 hour!
Grill your flank steak for about 5 minutes on each side and then let the steak rest for a other 5 minutes on the counter before you slice it!
Here is our Tacos.... I added Pico, Cojita Cheese, Homemade Guac and sour cream! I swear these are SOO YUMMY!
Enjoy guys and have a margarita for me!

Estes Park Day Trip

This past Saturday I went on a fun girls day trip to Estes Park! Erica on the right is a friend I have known for about 10 years, we danced for the NBA together! Erica turns 35 TODAY! Happy Birthday friend! She planned a fun day trip to go horse back riding, that is out of my comfort zone but I am glad I went. I met her another friend of hers (middle) and she was great, the 3 of us had a wonderful day.
We went on a 2+ hour ride in the mountains in Estes Park and just look at this view I snapped with my camera! And the night before we went the mountains had their first snow of the season, so our snow topped Rockies are back!
Let me say this, I had a wonderful day over all AND before I even said yes to going Erica called the stables and asked a ton of question on my behalf. So I decided to give it a whirl, NO I am in no way scared but I don't agree with riding horses on trails. All I am going to say is that I was right and justified to feel the way I do.... trail horses have a really hard life and I felt an enormous amount of guilt. One and done. I will not be going horseback riding again due to my own personal belief symptom and somethings I witnessed on the ride.
I tried to separate myself from the experience and immerse myself into the views.
After our ride I would NOT believe that the girls have NEVER been to the Stanley Hotel so I told them we have to go!!! It was as beautiful as always and we got to see not 1 wedding party but 3!!! It was a super busy day at the hotel! We got a table in the restaurant and celebrated Erica's birthday with a drink and a few appetizers!
I love Estes Park and I am constantly amazed that I get to live in such a beautiful state with so much to offer!

Benjamin Button

Most of you know that we called Abner our Benjamin Button and if you haven't seen the movie to understand the reference then you should PLUS it's a great movie. Brad Pitt's character was born an old man and each year he aged backwards, he got younger. And I know I have shared this story with you all before... but when we got Abner 8 years ago the doctors thought he was possibly 12 years old then. He was in bad shape but over the years with our LOVE and care he seemingly aged backwards! Our very own Benjamin Button.........
I was thinking of ways to honor Abner in tattoo form, who would of thought that would be something I would ever say BUT not a day goes by that I don't LOVE looking at my arm and thinking of my Oscar. Well a few weeks ago it came to me a BUTTON. Literally a sewing button. And last Thursday I made that come to fruition....
I was super nervous because that part of your arm can hurt so bad but my girl Brittany went with me and we chatted thru the pain! It's funny when researching buttons I couldn't find anything online, it's a  weird tattoo so I wound up going to Hobby Lobby and picking an actual button.
And yup it hurt, I have never had shading done before. You can see the button on his iPad for reference while he worked.
It will take a week before it looks better and the coloring will blend and lighten up some. But I honestly think this is the perfect way to honor Abner. After the tattoo we went to dinner and had a glass of wine to cheers to the life we got to spend with my boy.
All along I felt in denial still, like where is Abner... I was feeling disconnected from Abners memory and now I do feel like a piece of him is with me. I like that.

Look at this BIG BOY, Elway turned ONE yesterday! How did my newborn baby turn 1? LOL
This little turkey is SO full of joy and mischief but he is wise beyond his ONE year! This little guy helped us get thru a tough time losing Abner and he is always down for a make out session!
Happy Birthday Elway Austin Savage, your a big boy now!

Book Club Day Trip!

Last Saturday I invited 10 girls from my Book Club to meet in Georgetown for a little day trip and they were so excited! I loved showing off the house and all the girls loved it so much! We did a lot that day.... we had lunch, did a little shopping, shopped the Georgetown library book sale (so fun) and then while some of us relaxed at the house a few of us went on a little hike!
It was awesome because it was kinda cool and all the Aspens were turning gold on our hike!
It was literally like we FOUND FALL! Oh ya know.... just being basic white girls excited about Fall!
It was so fun and honestly seeing the Fall colors on the walk was stunning, perfect way to spend an hour!
So funny so we all brought rain gear but when we left to walk to lunch it was pretty hot so we left it at the house. What do ya know..... it poured and we laughed and walked in the rain the whole way back thinking about our rain jackets being all dry at the house! LOL
During the afternoon rain we settled into the living room and had bookclub!
You know when I have people at the Georgetown house I am more relaxed then if I had people to my home in Castle Rock. It does feel like a vacation and everyone can help themselves, we all chip in to clean up.... so it's really nice being able to enjoy the day as well as play hostess.
OMG! I got the new game What Do You Meme and it did NOT disappoint!!! LOL! We had a ball and this is a good example of the craziness of the game!
Thank you girls for making the trek up to Georgetown and enjoying the day with me!!!!

Okie A'la Mode Interior Design

For the past 2 months I have been working with a new Interior Design client and this past Sunday it finally was install day! Before we talk about this house I will share with you all a little of how and what I do.
I specialize in using things you already have in your home in a new way while bringing in new items to make those items shine. Sure, I would love to start from the ground up but for most people (myself included) that is not realistic. I come in with fresh eyes and a plan to turn your house into a HOME.

I will meet you discuss your wants/needs and tour your home. Then I will come back with my design boards to present to you! You can see this families boards HERE If needed be I will make changes and once we decide we move forward with a plan.
Once everything arrives and I have shopped for all your new stuff install day is here.... AND I kick you out of your home for 7+ hours! LOL

Let's see the BEFORES:

Living Room

 Home Office
Hallway and might I add the client made this and I wanted to make sure to turn this into a focal piece!
Guest room (and yes, I just caught them on a messy day)
 Now let's see the AFTER:
Literally by moving around the furniture in the office it looks TWICE as big! I kept it clean and simple while highlighting their memories. A rug helps ground the desk and gives it it's own space.
They had a HUGE long hallway so I created a "landing" space. A little vignette of a place to sit, store and check yourself before you head out for the day!
If you remember these painting created by the couple were just laying on top of the shelves in the office and I love personal touches so I gave them their very own gallery wall. Plus there is room to add on.......
OMG first of all look at their cutie pie dog Wren! She looks like a model in the guest room! I wanted to completely change the look of this room and make it bright and inviting. The Aspens above the bed and the framed Rocky Mountains print on the wall play homage to our beautiful state.
My clients love maps so I added touches of them throughout the house. I wanted a huge print to anchor this table....
And also by adding these awesome metal bins under the table it gives it more depth... functional and stylish!
I am SO PROUD of this, in one of the bins I got vintage maps cu tin 1/2 and rolled to fill with. It looks so cool and also is a play off their love of maps! When this came together I was giddy with excitement!
If you remember their living room had a weird blank space and I needed to add height to the room so I found this awesome ladder shelf that was also a great price! On that bottom shelf I brought in more of those vintage maps to tie the rooms together with.
I love creating gallery wall, this makes the house feel like a home full of memories and it is also so chic!
Look at how that new rug brightens the room and adds warmth! LOVE
Lastly the dining room... we added modern curtains, those great Ikat prints to tie in the blues plus the huge fork and spoon!!! They did not have a dining room rug which is a must.... it perfectly completes the room!

Right before they came back I was like crap, what if they don't love it but they did! And in fact the next morning I got the sweetest text from them again telling me how in love with everything they are!
