Movie Mania

I have 3 VERY different movies/documentaries to talk about today..... I guess I was busy this weekend or make that not very busy at all unless it was in front of a screen!!!!
For YEARS I have been fascinated with Scientology, I mean.... the who, what and why are so intriguing to me!! SO last year when I heard the book Going Clear was made into a documentary I was thrilled! I couldn't find anywhere that was screening this until thankfully HBO took that leap and I am so glad they did! This aired on Sunday and I was enthralled for all 120 minutes of this documentary. It was creepy, weird and unbelievable but at the same time I believed every minute of it to be true! Check out the trailer here.....

Last year Divergent was literally one of my favorite movies and believe it or not one of Matt's favorites too! To this date it is one of my all time favorite book to movies.... it is just so easy to rematch over and over and over..... well you get the point! Sunday Matt and I went to see Insurgent and we LOVED it! Whether it was based on a book or not this was a great movie and it made me want to run home and pick up book #3 in the series! I just can't say enough how much I loved this movie.... go see it!!!!!!!
Ok, so for the last month all over the internet I have been reading about this Horror movie It Follows and how the reviews are calling it the scariest movie in decades, brilliant, horrifying and these reviews go on and on! So I was intrigued and lucky me it finally got enough buzz to come out to theaters this past weekend so I hit up a matinee on Saturday by myself.
So???????? Ok, the premise is good, the movie is set in the 80s and shot in that creepy old horror movie style which made it feel extra "campy".  Was it the best? Not really. I mean if you take away the excellent creepy music in the movie it wasn't that scary. Overall this is a renter..... so in the coming weeks if you see this OnDemand give it a whirl but don't run to your theater!
Here is the trailer......

Formal Dining Room Inspiration...

My Mother-in-Law is in process of re-doing her house and she is focused on her formal dining this week and I had some ideas to inspire her! I have used things she already purchased and then expanded to give her and YOU ideas!!

This board includes the actual rug she has already purchased a picture to represent the new hardwood floors she has put in this weekend. Now, she plans on keeping her original dining room table but I picked out a new one for inspiration from Pottery Barn. And I picked out a Barnwood table where one side is a bench like I have in my house and we LOVE it! I then thought that the whole.... Shabby Chic, reclaimed look best fits Micki so I found these AMAZING "vintage" metal chairs to pair with the table! So this looks like this vintage set was found and pieced together. The throw pillows will help tie everything together in the end and will look so chic in the metal chairs!
Savage Dining Room Basics

Next up is the buffet..... now her walls in the Dining room are purple and this color represents them and I discovered today that burlap and the vintage feel looks amazing with purple! This is just the buffet that pairs with the table above from Pottery Barn. Now I LOVE the mirror with the panels over the buffet flanked by the Chic burlap lamp on one side and the vintage "S" light up marquee on the other side! I picked out the fun silver cake stands that can hold a cake, candles or be switched out to match each season!
Savage Buffet and Decor

This board is the Tabletop board.... I found this burlap table runner with white lace that will not only help tie in the chair pillows but the white crown molding in the dining room! On top of that I love that vintage metal container that can house napkins, wine bottles, silverware.... you name it! Then I took a page out of the Magnolia Lane handbook by picking out the vintage oversized wine bottles and by filling them with the cotton sticks.
Savage Tabletop Inspiration

Lastly is the wall board... once again the purple is to represent the already purple walls which have a much better grey undertone that this swatch I found! I like the idea of fun chevron burlap curtains flanking the windows to tie in the burlap as well as the rug! This mug holder is from Magnolia Farms aka Fixer Upper on HGTV and I LOVE it... I want it for my house SO bad! The chalkboard will be perfect to write out the menu or announce holidays! I like this antique "Eat" print framed in silver or maybe vintage wood.... that would be a very ironic modern touch to the dining room!
Savage Wall Ideas

Micki, I hope these ideas if anything inspire you or get your mind rolling! To be these boards are you and your style! Her kitchen has white, black and the touches of grey in it so I think those colors will help tie everything together.... maybe adding touches of burlap to the eat in kitchen will also help tie everything together!

Take Your Pick!

Whenever I am in a book rut it is the worst thing ever... it just ruins my "me time" before bed. But I will have to say that lately that hasn't been a problem (Thank God)!! I have 3 books for you that I really loved and you will too!!!

In the rugged Pacific Northwest lies the Olympic National Forest—nearly a million acres of impenetrable darkness and impossible beauty. From deep within this old growth forest, a six-year-old girl appears. Speechless and alone, she offers no clue as to her identity, no hint of her past.

Having retreated to her western Washington hometown after a scandal left her career in ruins, child psychiatrist Dr. Julia Cates is determined to free the extraordinary little girl she calls Alice from a prison of unimaginable fear and isolation. To reach her, Julia must discover the truth about Alice’s past—although doing so requires help from Julia’s estranged sister, a local police officer. The shocking facts of Alice’s life test the limits of Julia’s faith and strength, even as she struggles to make a home for Alice—and for herself. In Magic Hour, Kristin Hannah creates one of her most beloved characters, and delivers an incandescent story about the resilience of the human spirit, the triumph of hope, and the meaning of home.

A few weeks ago I read and LOVED The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah and when I was reading this one I was in constant amazement at her range. Magic Hour is light years away from that one but written just as well. I mean Kristin is such a talented author and I am SO thankful I found her.... you should discover her too. For me this book was a "ripped from the headlines" story that had tabloid intrigue and real heart. This book was surprising for me, so different but I really enjoyed it!
Mare Barrow's world is divided by blood—those with common, Red blood serve the Silver- blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. Before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.

To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard—a growing Red rebellion—even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction. One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays, the only certainty is betrayal.

To me this book is Red Rising meets Divergent but yet at the same time it really held it's own and had it's own unique story. This was a fun, easy and enjoyable YA read that is killing it on the Book charts right now. I really enjoyed this story and it had a twist that I didn't see coming! And of course... I will be waiting on Book 2 to come out!
New York Times bestselling author Allison Pataki follows up on her critically acclaimed debut novel, The Traitor’s Wife, with the little-known and tumultuous love story of “Sisi” the Austro-Hungarian Empress and captivating wife of Emperor Franz Joseph.
The year is 1853, and the Habsburgs are Europe’s most powerful ruling family. With his empire stretching from Austria to Russia, from Germany to Italy, Emperor Franz Joseph is young, rich, and ready to marry.

Fifteen-year-old Elisabeth, “Sisi,” Duchess of Bavaria, travels to the Habsburg Court with her older sister, who is betrothed to the young emperor. But shortly after her arrival at court, Sisi finds herself in an unexpected dilemma: she has inadvertently fallen for and won the heart of her sister’s groom. Franz Joseph reneges on his earlier proposal and declares his intention to marry Sisi instead.

This book is exactly why I LOVE Historical Fiction.... I am not only learning about a time that I didn't know about filled with intriguing people but I am being absolutely entertained! This book is my favorite of the 3 and it fills my mind like a royal movie and it would make a good one! The amazing part is that the bones of this book are all true... the people, time, place and story... the author just filled in what we didn't read about in history books and it is so good! Take some time to pick this book up and Becky's the Book Club will love it!

Peru Lion Adoption!

Operation Spirit Of Freedom will bring 33 African Lions to Colorado the first week of April 2015.  This massive airlift will be a record-setting event, and will be one of the most monumental rescues undertaken by any animal welfare organization in the world.
Something BIG and wonderful is happening and I MUST help! 33 Lions Rescued from horrible Circus attractions in Peru are headed to Colorado and the mission is incredible. Watch this short video to learn more.......
Peru Lions Getting Ready To Come To Colorado from Wild Animal Sanctuary on Vimeo.

The lions will be headed to The Wild Animal Sanctuary here just outside of Denver!!
The Wild Animal Sanctuary now houses 25 lions successfully rescued from Bolivia in 2011. Craig expects the Peruvian and Colombian lions to have similar health issues as the Bolivian ones. "Most sit in a cage for their entire lives. They don’t perform," Craig says. "A lot of them will be beaten up and bruised. One or two are blind. Most of them need to gain a lot of weight and get healthy again." The Sanctuary already sent a dentist to visit the lions to take care of any major dental issues; the caged animals were often jabbed with steel bars that they'd bite and thus break their teeth.
All of that work comes with a hefty price tag. Craig estimates each lion costs $8,000 annually—or $264,000 total—to care for. (The animals could live for another couple decades.) The Sanctuary is trying to raise $75,000 to finish building the dens and habitat as well as look after the animals' health.
You guys I desperately want to Adopt a Lion from Peru but with the cost being $360 for the year (up front) I cannot do it alone! So I have a WILD idea to adopt a lion with ALL of you!!!!!
I will adopt the lion in my blogs name and will do updates as I receive them and we can do this together!!!
Here is how this will work!!!! I will need at least $260 in donations and I will provide the last $100! But until I know we can do this you won't have to pay! When I have enough commitments from you I will then send out paypal invoices to collect the money!!!! The Lions fly in Soon and need our help! Will you help me? A Donation of anything will work!
Just leave me comment or shoot me an email at nsavage@live.com and let me know your commitment!!!
Spread this post!!!!

Last Saturday night Matt and I had a great Date Night to end a really terrible week. A while back Matt got us tickets to see Garth Brooks and I will preface that by saying I am not a huge fan (gasp) but Matt is. We were in a suite with some of Matt's friends and I really had a great time. And let me say.... he puts on a show! I mean he truly commits and I think I enjoyed it so much because I also know what a nice person he seems like.
It was hard for me to get my mind right just days after Granddads funeral and I will admit a few songs got me, but it was nice to get out of the house and do something enjoyable!
I had quite a few people ask about my shirt which is actually a dress!!! This was a splurge from Anthropologie last month and is sadly no longer available. I added the ankle booties and the turquoise jewelry I got on sale from Charming Charlie's and that was my take on "Cowgirl Chic". And you will be seeing this dress again for sure, I LOVED it!!!!!!!!

Family Time.

Last week in Oklahoma the 2 days before the funeral we all wanted to spend some quality family time together....to get our minds onto something fun for a change. Last Tuesday we had a girls day where we took my Oma to lunch, shopping (of course) and then to see Cinderella so she could have a break from making funeral decisions.
The movie? We all loved it! It was so cute and had the best message.....
  Be Kind and Have Courage!!!
Here is my Mom, Aunt Heidi and grandma Oma enjoying the recliner seats! A St. Patty's Day well spent!
Cheese..... We aren't related or anything........

Then last Wednesday Matt made it to Oklahoma as did my brother and my Dad took the day off!! So we went to this super fun place Hey Day in Moore and had lunch and then bowled a few rounds!
Here I present you with our best family bowler and the worst.... take your guess as to who is who!!!
I mean it is rare that we are all off of work and get to spend time together..... we all had the best time!
Marissa's Birthday is next week and in fact last week her and my Mom were suppose to be on Spring Break in Denver with me until things changed. So I wanted to take a minute out and give her an early Birthday present! And of course she loved the paper! Me too!!
Here is one of my super handsome cat-siblings "Fuzzy Bear".... I think he looks like Aslan from Narnia!
And of course my Dog-Sister Betsy Ross who had the week of her life with all of us in town to give her non-stop love! Oh, how I love this little girl! She is a mini Aussie!
Lastly I was so thankful that my 2 girlfriends Becky and Melissa came to the funeral to support me! Thanks girls! Then Becky came back to my Moms with the family to help out..... she is family after all!

You know now I am in this weird place where I need to get back to real life but I can't. I am honestly still in denial, I haven't fully grieved... I know it. I just can't believe it.  Each day is challenge. Thank you to everyone for the prayers and thoughts shot our way!

I have to say that the positive from last week while being back home in Oklahoma for my Granddad's funeral was getting to spend so much time with family. And not just my everyday family but our extended family that we don't get to see that much. So getting to be with them to share in the love and memories of our beloved granddad made my heart smile a little bit.
We took some family pictures at the family meal before the funeral and I wanted to share them with you.....

The Bolo tie I am wearing was my Granddad's.... one of his favorites and now it is mine and I will cherish it forever. Truly.
All the women in my family, I just love this picture so much!
My Granddad was in the Air Force and had a full military funeral with honors so it was real special that my brother was able to wear his Marine uniform to our our Granddad.
 My parents...........
 The Grandkids........

My Mom and her cousin Tommy, when I was small I would spend weeks in the Summer with Tommy and his kids.... so great to see you Tommy!
You would never know they are related would you? Nah! :)

That stunning woman in red is my Granddad's 104 year old mother Ruby. What a blessing huh?
