Summer Slim Down

Who wants all the deets??
WHY?
This one is easy you all know I have been on WW since the beginning of January and it is slow but steady.... I have lost 20 pounds! Well this week I gained 2 and I need to re-focus, so this is the perfect new start for me! I have LOVED that so many friends have reached out to me via this blog, FB or email to talk about their own weight loss..... we all struggle with the exact same thing! And I could not have done this without you ALL....your support helps me to jump back on it when I fall off. So I thought lets do this together and we have 10 weeks!

WHAT?
You do not have to be doing WW at all let me say that and you also can follow along anonymously! Starting Monday we have 10 weeks of summer and our goal is 10 pounds in 10 weeks! Our finish line is Labor Day! And you all may have noticed I have never said a perfect number I want to loose....I just want to see how it goes, where I feel good at AND more importantly keep it off. I would rather keep it off, getting there in a healthy way than log huge numbers to just gain again.

HOW?
Each week I am going to give us all a goal to focus on and I am hoping that each week we all can just add our new goal or challenge on top of the previous weeks! And I have said it so many times on here my body seems to work best by loosing 1-2 pounds one week and then maintaining that the next.....SO....don't worry if you don't loose 1 pound per week. And if you only loose 5 pounds in 10 weeks that is a WIN!
I am going to be posting recipes I find I love, ideas.....tips and struggles with all of you. And feel free to FB me if you want to talk about it or need some support....because I am 100% in the same position as everyone else. Just because I say to do something doesn't always mean I do it all the time...I am human

**Bonus!**
Do you have a blog? Even if you don't... do you have a weight loss story that you want to share with my readers? I would love to hear it and post your story during these 10 weeks! All you have to do is email me (nsavage@live.com) in your email.....give me a picture (any pic will do) tell us about yourself and anything you would like to share! I will then post 1 story a week! DO IT! (lol)

WEEK ONE!
What we will do:

1. Weigh in. I weight in every friday morning so that way the weekend is behind me and I have all week to focus on Friday.
** My current weight is 158**

2. Find an app that allows you to track food and weight that you like. Or a plain old notebook will work to. I use the **WW app** but there are also a ton out there for free. Get yourself something that will work for you and test it out.

Week One Challenge!
I realize this is 4th of July so actually this first challenge is JUST what I need! Portion Control! This week no matter what you are eating (healthy or not) lets all adjust our portions. I am going to cut down my portions by 1/4. I am going to try to be methodical and really focus on adjusting my portions since mine tend to get out of control! This challenge for me is what I am worst at......this seems to make or break me and I need to get this under control!

We will all be eating out/cooking out/celebrating this week so here are just a few recipes I am making this week if you want to make them yourself!

Dessert: I am gonna make these super easy "Skinny Root Beer Floats" I am a sucker for Root Beer! You can get this recipe HERE

For Lunch this week I am going to make these "Skinny BLT's" YUmm!!! Here I will take with me an apple, some Special K cracker chips and a snack of cottage cheese!

Dinner:
One night we are going to grill out and make these "Caprese Grilled Chicken" HERE but I will use sliced low fat Mozzerella and probably a salad and asparagus with!

Another night I am making these super fun "Rachael Ray Tilapia Clubs" HERE and if I watch my portion and go extra heavy on the veggies I might even have some fries with these!

Lastly an oldie but a goodie and Matt is actually home ALL week (I know, right?) so I am having him make these bad boys......"Turkey Taco Lettuce Wraps" HERE and if your hubby or kids don't like the lettuce wrap then they can easily have a tortilla!

Ok friends! There is the plan! Feel free to pass around this blog post ....the more the merrier and I might do a give away or two during these 10 weeks! We can do it!

Liked and Loved

A breathtaking story set against the volatile events of Afghanistan's last 30 years—from the Soviet invasion to post-Taliban rebuilding—that puts the violence, fear, hope and faith of this country intimate, human terms.......
I read the Kite Runner years ago and I am not sure why it took me so long to open up A Thousand Splendid Suns. This is one of those books that is not only an incredible story but I feel like I learned something and I was immersed into a new culture. This book is my favorite out of Khaled Hosseini's three books, this book I couldn't wait to read and that is the best feeling ever...isn't it? This book for me had 1 theme......women. Everyday we are so lucky as women to be born in a free country, I too take it for granted. The fact that women all over are punished just for being girls is something I can barely wrap my head around. This book weaves a beautiful story of 2 woman in the Middle East and I really think you should give it a try!
In this tale revolving around not just parents and children but brothers and sisters, cousins and caretakers, Hosseini explores the many ways in which families nurture, wound, betray, honor, and sacrifice for one another; and how often we are surprised by the actions of those closest to us, at the times that matter most. Following its characters and the ramifications of their lives and choices and loves around the globe
This is Hosseini's latest book and current bestseller that is once again set in the Middle East. Like before, this "genre" of books set in the Middle Eastern culture is new to me and I love experiencing something new. This book was an epic story but for me sadly fell flat. This book not only bounced around from characters and countries but times also. One chapter in say 1990 then the next in 1950s then to the 70s......I found it very hard to connect the timeline and really connect with the characters. It was enjoyable and you should by all means read it.....hey, who knows...maybe I was in a weird reading mood!
Two weekends ago we saw Now You See Me thanks to all my FB friends for the FAB suggestion! This movie was fun, clever and most importantly entertaining. I loved everyone who starred in this movie and just when I thought I knew what was happening.....I didn't! If you don't see this in theaters then add it to you "rent" list!
Now............behold.............a movie I have been looking forward to for quite some time......World War Z! There is no beating around the bush....I LOVED this movie. This movie wasn't a horror but a thriller, a thriller filled with action that kept me on my toes! Brad Pitt is perfect in this playing a loving father but also someone who specializes in "tracking" outbreaks. This movie was right up my alley and I just might say it......ONE of the best movies I have seen this year!!!!! Go see it!

GUESS WHAT?????

The Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield is one of the MOST haunted locations in the US. It has been featured on every single paranormal show including Ghost Adventures and Ghost Hunters where I first saw this place. This place was even the set for The Shawshank Redemption.....
They give weekend tours which I have wanted to go on since we moved here but ya know what?? I can do one better.......They give around 20 over night ghost hunts each year and this year has been sold out for months but.........I won TWO TICKETS!!!!! Yes, holy crap....Matt and I are going this Saturday! I literally can not believe I am getting to do this, this might be the BEST thing I have ever done! (Or I hope it will)
Here is a video about the Ghost Hunts......

Will I be scared? Probably, I don't know what we will do...but I don't think we will go off just the 2 of us. Here is the website to learn more about the prison and what not...click HERE

WW Run Down...

I have been overwhelmed with the love and support during my WW journey and the fact that I have even "inspired" 1 person to take that leap is amazing! I have gotten a lot of questions and I thought I would try my best to give you my run down, advice and things that help me. I might be a little all over the place so stick with me here!
First off, just because I am telling you something does not mean I do it 100% of the time. I screw up so much but I get right back on top of things. Second this truly is NOT a diet and this isn't a over night fix. This is a full on lifestyle change! I have been doing WW for 21 weeks and lost 20 pounds which is the normal for a WW plan.
- I could never do a diet where I had to omit something I loved or solely eat cooked chicken and a veggie. With cooking being my passion I LOVE that I still try out new recipe after new recipe!
- I eat 95% at home. Now I take my lunch to work with me and we only go out for maybe 1 dinner and 1 lunch during the week... that has been HUGELY helpful to me.
This is an average week of food I buy and eat............
You have to change things......I LOVE hearty breakfast food and sweets but Matt and I have found a way to bring a bit of that in our weekend routine. We do egg white omelet with spinach and fat free cheese then cinnamon sugar toast on wheat every weekend! And no I do not get tired of it....I LOVE it! And every single day for 21 weeks I have 2 hard boiled eggs (whites only) and a 100% whole wheat english muffin (no butter, but with grape jelly) for breakfast! It never gets old to me....yet!
You HAVE to plan ahead....plan out everything you will eat in everyday. My morning snack now that I am in a office is fat free cottage cheese (1/2 cup) and 1/4 cup mandarin oranges in 100% jiuce. This is around 3 points.
I eat an apple every single day.....this is a 0 point snack and for just 1 point I have a WW brand string cheese with!
I can not live without dessert so we don't! During the week I might have a WW ice cream or even a piece of chocolate that will usually satisfy my sweet tooth! On the weekends I always make WW recipe desserts from the WW cookbooks/pinterest/SkinnyTastse!
Coffee is essentially 0 points if you don't add much sugar or cream (I don't like my coffee sweet) so now that I am in an office I will have 2 cups in the morning to help with any mid-morning hunger before my morning snack!
When I wasn't working I would have 1 can Progresso 1-2 WW point soup and some crackers for lunch. Well, now I need much more to get me thru the rest of my day at work....so this has been an adjustment. I always try to make double at night so I can bring the rest to work for lunch! I plan out every lunch for the coming week on Sunday.
I am not a HUGE fan of the frozen meals but I have found some I like, so at work I need something more with it....so a salad with Fat free dressing (or homemade) can be 1 point! ( you see my chocolate dessert?)!
TIP! DO NOT drink your calories! No pop or juice.....water and tea (unsweetened)only!
Another lunch time option below is the oldie but goodie soup and salad! I always pack my lunch the night before. I pack 2 snacks also.
Here is another lunch or dinner idea...that is a WW brand chicken burger patty and these steam fresh veggies....I LOVE! You can find both of these in the freezer section! The burger patty is ok, easy because you can grill it without defrosting it.
Lastly....I splurge! Heck ya I do....look at this! It happens and on this day I had a healthy breakfast and used most of my points at lunch! And I have to eat an occasional donut....I just eat it and then get back on track!
You can do it! And we will do this together! Anything I missed???? I hope this was helpful!

Game of......what?

Ok, first of all I am writing this Saturday so I have not seen the finale of Game of Thrones yet.....second, I have not read the books. Once I started the show 3 years ago I didn't feel the need to muddle it with the books since I loved the show so much!
Now, if you don't watch this.......then this post isn't for you! HAHA!
Red Wedding!
This might be a bold statement but The Red Wedding episode might be the BEST episode of any show I have watched.....ever. This episode made me gasp out loud.....it was sad, horrific, amazing, shocking and I could go on for days. No one can do what HBO does for their shows.end of story.
This show was literally one my mind ALL week and I was dying to find someone at my new job that watches it so we could talk it over. (I found no one) This episode was almost a reunion, this episode was a wedding, this episode was full of emotion and I could go on and on.
I realize this is all kinda funny considering I don't watch gory horror films but HBO just does it right and I love it.
Did you watch it???

WW Update!

Hi guys..... So I am aware it has been 3 weeks since I posted about my journey in WW and they have been a rocky 3 weeks! My in-laws were in town which meant my favorite meals and then I started a new job so my body has been forging thru! I gained 3 pounds during all of that BUT I am happy to say that when I weighed in yesterday I lost those 3 and I am back at 18 pounds lost and ready to move forward!
It is more challenging with work because I am eating breakfast earlier and I am finding I need a more filling lunch to get me thru the day....so my WW points have been all over the board. I will say I am SO proud of myself...while everyone at work is munching on yummy/junk food in all of the vending machines...I have eaten my healthy snacks. AND...if you know me then you KNOW how bad I want a pack of powdered donuts or the big Texas cinnamon roll!
The biggest advantage I have is that I plan ahead. I bring lunch and 2 snacks everyday and I am finding out what works and what doesn't!
My goal is to loose those 2 pounds to round out my 20 and then we will love on to Goal #2!

Do you have any tips for WW at work? Lunch ideas>??

Work...

I know a few of you have been asking about my new job and this is one of those topics I have to be careful about.....with this being a public blog and all....but I will do my best to give you the "jest"
I work for a company that has been around for 100 + years...they manufacture, ship and install professional kitchens. We do almost every fast food, chain, fine dining, grocery store that you could think of.  This company has 5 "sister" companies that are all under the same "umbrella". I am in the transportation department.
Getting to pick out work outfits every morning for the most part is very fun! I am a "tad" over dressed for my company but whatever works for me.....ya know? What am I kidding.... I pick out my outfits on Sunday like a kid getting ready for school. That cuts down on my "get ready" time immensely.
My department handles ALL the freight, quotes, invoices, checks....anything that has to do with getting our kitchens to their locations. You would be amazed at how much is shipped out....this stack is just ONE days freight invoices that I "code".
This building has been around since 1960 and that was the last time it was renovated too! HA! I actually don't even have a desk....yet....still. But behind that half-wall will be my very own cubicle! For now I share a desk with my boss. Yup, sure do! He is actually gone for 2 weeks for the military so I have taken over his desk and duties while he is away.
This new "work life" will take a bit getting use to....I am not allowed to email or use the internet at all. So the only emailing I can do during the day is on my phone. And yes, my boss told me it was ok....he told me they all hate the restrictions.
The company is in a factory/manufacturing part of Columbus that is in the real ghetto (hey, said my boss too) ....but our parking lot has a gate and we have key-fobs to get in the building. My boss told me never to get gas or do anything on this part of town during lunch. This is the parking lot view and at lunch most days I am dying to see the daylight. (No windows inside) This is about 14 miles from my house and somedays I can make it in 25minutes .....others 50 minutes.
Over all things are going well....I am getting a routine down and getting to know the HUGE factory with my company. I think change is hard even when it is good. Ya know?
