Update on Oscar...

Hi friends, sorry I didn't post yesterday but Oscar did not go into surgery until 4pm. It was a long day for all us in my family and I was glued to my phone waiting for the call. When I get upset I clean, so my house is sparkling today. Here is the news we know........

Oscar had his CT scan and they saw that the problem was with his 12-15 vertibrea. They moved him right into surgery which took a little over an hour. They said that the "gel-like" material that protects your spinal cord had completely degenerated into a gravel like substance and was causing him immense pain. The surgery went well and last night he was sedated and on morphine. I am not going to visit him because I don't want to remind him to miss me, I need him to heal and rest. The surgeon did say there was nerve damage but he expects Oscar to eventually make a great recovery. With that being said Oscar might have a few issues throughout his life but we won't know that now. I am waiting to hear from the hospital this morning to see how the night went. They say no news is good news....but I do happen to be the crazy Mom who called 4xs yesterday to check in! When he is ready to leave in a few days I will have an extensive meeting with the doctors to discuss a therapy plan and how to care for him around the clock at home....and everything that will entail.

My friend Traci ( you can visit her blog HERE) has been sharing her tips, videos and ideas she did when her pup went thru is so comforting knowing I have someone who went thru this too. And did I mention her weenie is named Oscar too??
Today I am going to spend the day fixing things up for Oscar when he comes home. He will have to be crated for a month or so to limit his movement. I am going to get a crate today, bed, blankets and I am moving him into the master bedroom with my cat. I think it will be hard for him to be in the living room watching the other dogs play. Bella (the cat) and him go way back and she comforts him so I think it will be a good fit. I am going to go ahead and also get the things I will be needing for his eventual at home physical therapy. (we will be doing water therapy)

I have to say that this week I have been racked with guilt, the surgeon said he has probably been in pain for some time but this week is when he lost his movement. I think back to signs I saw, I think maybe I have not been as comforting as he needed, I think about how he couldn't tell me he is in pain. I know I can not change the past but I can't get my mind to stop. These animals of mine are 100% my children and I love them as much as I would ever love a baby. I am scared to bring him home, I will be a wreck trying to figure out how to make him comfortable and not hurt him. But we will cross that bridge when it comes and this week has given me a few days to prepare for him to come home.

I will let you all know any updates I have and of course you all are going to be taking this journey with us. I want to say again how much I appreciate all the support, prayers and kind words. I 100% can feel that it is  helping!

The surgeon JUST called and said he is uncomfortable and tender but he can feel his back legs and has sensation! Great news

The picture above is of me kissing Oscar goodbye just a little over an hour ago.....his nurse took the picture for me! Let me start from the beginning but you will have to forgive me I am still processing this myself and I want to accurately describe what is going on.

First of all I am alone, Matt has been gone since last Wed and will be gone until Friday...home for 2 days then gone again all for work. So when the Pet Hospital asked about my emergency contact ....I have none here. Matt is actually in Chicago sick, suppose to be working but so sick, so I have that worry in my head as well. Anyways....

Last night Oscar got hurt playing and I decided to see how he was this morning before making a call, maybe he needed to rest. Well this morning I carry him out to go potty and when I set him down he tried standing on this back legs and fell over and had to use the rest room that was horrific. I ran inside and called the vet and they worked us the drive to the vet he cried which is so awful because you can't explain to an animal that you are getting him help, when he looks at me in pain it rips my heart in two. This is my child. At the vet our new doctor was very matter of fact and came back into our room with a referral page to head straight over to the Animal Hospital about 30 minutes north....he then told me it was serious and a neurologist is waiting for me. I was shocked but I am so proud of myself I kept it together, I didn't want to alarm Oscar anymore than he already was. When we got to the hospital we went thru the ER and while we waited seeing all the hurt and sick animals waiting was horrible, I lost it. I was the crazy person crying in the corner covering my Oscee in kisses. Over the course of the next 2+ hours I met his nurse, neurosurgeon and head of surgery who then told me he has degenerative disc disease.
Here is the QUICK quick version....the "sponge-like" stuff that protects his spinal cord has degenerated and like in the picture below without that buffer his disk(s) are pinching his spinal cord which is causing his paralysis.........
I know right?
What happens now............
He is there, I am so glad he is getting IV fluid, pain meds and great care... much more than I can do with him here. Then tomorrow morning they will put him under and do a "MRI" of sorts to find the discs that are causing this. You see if I had waited longer than 24 hours he might not have been able to recover. Scary. After the imaging and the doctors know where to operate he will be in surgery on his spinal cord. He will then stay at the Hospital a number of days to recover. I will learn more about his physical therapy later this week but it is extensive! My friend Traci had this exact thing happen to her weenie last year, she will be so helpful and walk me thru everything.  Yes, this is VERY pricey...I had to pay in full a $1,950 deposit today just to get this ball rolling. But we will figure it out, ya know? This is family and the only option.
I will keep you updated tomorrow as I talk to the doctors after his surgery. I appreciate everyones kind thoughts and prayers SO much.....they help. Oscar is so hard headed he will get thru this, it won't be easy but he will be running around again I know it at some point.

Hi friends, I need a quick favor.....I need you to shoot up a prayer or send some positive vibes my way.....
Matt has been out of town in San Diego last week and then he flew straight to Chicago yesterday for all of this week and he is sick. I told him to find a urgent care place but you know how men are! He has a long week ahead and I don't want him to get worse.... so I am worried.
And while I am alone......
Last night our weenie Oscar got hurt somehow. I watched him last night and waited to see how he was this morning and well, we have the first opening slot at the vet today at 11am. He is groaning, shaking and won't stand.....I carried him out to go potty this morning and he wouldn't stand. I am worried sick.
Looks like my little family is falling apart.....I will keep you updated!

Thank God for Home Towns....

Why yes that is a Carrie Underwood song (And fellow Okie)....that song is so wonderful and I think about it a lot! It is no surprise I love Oklahoma but I will say I am falling in love with if only I could magically move Columbus to Oklahoma! Anyways.....
This is a video that is being passed around on FB between my friends and it explains perfect why I love Oklahoma! This video to me is a glimpse inside my heart...........

This video:
* Features a company I worked for
* The museum my brother got married at
* The hotel Matt and I stayed at for our wedding
* The team I love
* The college I went to
* Places I loved to eat
* The Myriad garden were we took our engagement pictures
* The place we celebrated birthdays and anniversaries
And I could go on and on but the point is to showcase a city that was and is a part of me.

WW Week in Review...

Week 2 is in the bag or hopefully off my a**! This week I wasn't starving as much as I was last week but oddly enough that didn't give me comfort....I felt like since I wasn't hungry all day then it must not be working or I am doing something wrong! I am sure the real reason is that my stomach is getting with the program. This week I made some great meals, one night we had Asian and Matt loved this meal as much as I did.......

Sesame Tenders and Veggie Fried Rice
2 large tenders or 3 small = 5 points
WW has a ton of Fried rice recipes so you can google it and take your pick!
18 oz chicken tenderloins
salt and pepper to taste
2 tsp sesame oil
2 tsp low sodium soy sauce
6 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
1/2 tsp course salt
4 tbsp panko
olive oil spray (I used my Misto)
Preheat oven to 425°. Spray a baking sheet with non-stick oil spray.
Combine the sesame oil and soy sauce in a bowl, and the sesame seeds, salt and panko in another
Place chicken in the bowl with the oil and soy sauce, then into the sesame seed mixture to coat well. Place on the baking sheet; lightly spray the top of the chicken with oil spray and bake 8 - 10 minutes. Turn over and cook another 4 - 5 minutes longer or until cooked through.

My Mom let me know she was watching the Today Show last week and they did healthy foil pack meals (my fav) and I made one this week! This was so good..... This foil pack is only 4 WW Points and I served mine with a little bread! (I had too)
Recipe: Foil-roasted cod with herbed vegetables by Chris Kimball (Today Show) (Recipe for 4)

1 medium zucchini, halved lengthwise and cut into thin half moons
1 fennel bulb, trimmed, halved, cored, and sliced thin
2 garlic cloves, minced
6 scallions, sliced thin (I would leave these out next time)
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 cup dry white wine or dry white vermouth (I used low sodium Chicken Stock)
Salt and pepper. to taste
4 boneless, skinless cod fillets (about 2 pounds)
4 tablespoons unsalted butter

Adjust oven rack to lowest position and heat oven to 450 degrees. Combine zucchini, fennel, garlic, scallions, basil, thyme, wine, ¼ teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon pepper in large bowl.
Lay four 14-inch-long pieces of foil on work surface. Place one fillet on lower half of each piece of foil and season with salt and pepper. Top each fillet with one-quarter of vegetable mixture and 1 tablespoon butter. Fold foil over fish and vegetables and crimp edges together to form 4 packets.
Arrange packets in single layer on rimmed baking sheet and cook until vegetables are tender and fish is just cooked through, 15 to 20 minutes. Transfer packets to individual plates and carefully cut open with scissors, being careful to avoid steam. Serve.
This morning was my weigh in day and this is what the scale said! Last week I was 173.4 so this week I lost 3.4 pounds for a 2 week total of 6.4 pounds! I am excited and proud but also a little scared...I know I more than likely won't pull these numbers each week so I need to adjust my expectations accordingly! Being let down is something I hate! (Well, who doesn't)
My WW target daily points was 27 and I was using all of them everyday and as of today my new number is 26!
Are you doing WW with me? How did you do? Make anything you are dying to share?? Leave me a comment and "weigh" in on this matter! (hahaha) Leave your blog address if you have one so my visitors can visit YOU!
ps......It is snowing here and it is STUNNING! Why doesn't snow picture well?

My Story...

In Oklahoma we would attend Life Church (not nearly enough) and Matt and I loved how relateble the messages were. This church is pretty amazing and we miss it.... Luckily for us you can watch all the messages online and yesterday a friend of mine earged me to start the current series "My Story".

My Story
Craig Groeschel
One day we're all going to tell a story about our lives. The decisions we make today will determine the story we'll tell tomorrow. In the series, My Story, we're going to learn to live a story worth telling.

You can check Life church out by clicking HERE and watch a message that is pertinent to your life. This message got me thinking of what do I want? What should the chapters in my story be? And last night in bed I was thinking about what I want to be and this question is little "off base" but the message above got me thinking. What do I want to be? Who do I want to be? So, I thought I would share a list with you.....some of these things I might already be, some I will strive to be and others are full of hope........

I want to be someone who looks at both sides of the story.
I want to be someone who can forgive and let things go.
I want to be someone that friends and family can lean on.
I want to be someone who thinks before she speaks.
I want to be someone who is a glass half full person.
I want to be someone who has patience.
I want to be someone who lets resentments go.
I want to be someone whose past is the past.
I want to be someone who has hope for her future.
I want to be someone with a marriage full of trust, hope, passion and forgiveness.
I want to be someone who follows thru.

I honestly could go on and on and in fact the message in the first My Story was to not pick more than 1. Pick 1 thing that you think God wants you to be, nurture it and have discipline with it. And the thought is if you succeed with that "story/attribute/goal" tent you will be happy, proud and those feelings would snowball over to the next thing on your life. A question I have been asking myself lately when facing something "challenging" is...."How will this affect the big picture?" Or in this case how will this affect my story? I think we would all like to look back in years and see the point where out story got better.
So friends........ I would love it if you would leave me a comment and tell me What do you want to be? Who do you want to be?

Smoky Turkey Chili

The thing I am finding out about WW recipes is that since this is not a diet but a lifestyle change.....changing out good for better and portion control..that I am LOVING the recipes! That is what I needed to still be able to enjoy the kitchen and so far I have! Last night I made the best meal I have in awhile!!! I have to share it with you and I made some changes for the better that I will add.......

Smoky Turkey Chili

1 pound ground, skinless turkey breast (be sure it is 99% fat free ground white meat!)
1 yellow onion, chopped
1 red pepper, chopped
4 cloves of garlic, chopped or crushed
3 (15.5 ounce) cans of white beans (I used pinto and great northern)
1 (14.5 ounce) dices tomatoes (I used Fire Roasted)
1 cup ketchup
1 (4.5 ounce) can diced green chiles ( I used 2 cans)
3 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke (I omitted this because the taste is not very good and it was great without it)
chopped fresh parsley and/or cilantro
1 tablespoon smoked paprika (I added)
The directions were very vague and I didn't like the idea of the meat in a sense boiling in the crock pot so here is how I changed it up....
* Brown onion, garlic and red pepper in pan with 1 tsp EVOO and add to crock pot
* Brown the turkey meat in pan and season with S&P then add to pan
1. Combine all ingredients in your slow cooker.
2. Cook on low 6-8 hours.

Serving Size:
1 1/2 cups = 5 PointsPlus

This note was in the WW cookbook and I don't mind if I do: Add 2 tablespoons of fat free sour cream and 2 tablespoons of fat free cheddar cheese will increase PointsPlus value by 1
Let me know if you try fact I am off to the kitchen to eat this for lunch today! Yumm

Ok, I have never been a Lance Armstrong fan or a fan of cycling so last night was really my first taste of who he is as a person and I was SHOCKED. This guy sucks, I was floored by his answers and his smug grin during the Oprah interview. This guy actually said I do not think I cheated, everyone was doing it and at the time I never thought what I was doing was wrong........which means I am only sorry I got caught.?
I was watching Dr. Phil a few weeks ago a show about Narcissists and the people he had on the show seemed to smile or smirk while admitting to awful behavior.......Dr. Phil explained it this way..... a narcissist is actually proud of what they pulled it off, they unintentionally smile because they are like....."Ya, I did that....and I got away with it for a long time" and I think that hits the nail on the head from what I saw in this Oprah interview.
When she was asking him about calling a teammates wife a "whore, Bi***, slut, crazy" he was actually smiling while admitting this. I was shocked at how much this person sucks, I mean he is an awful person. (from what I saw in the interview) I know that might be harsh but take a long look at that interview.... his answers were insane, I did not see one ounce of a true apology just that everyone was doing it so it isn't wrong. And the ONLY thing he said he regretting was his 2010 comeback which lead to him being investigated......he said that if he didn't do that he would never have been caught.
Anyways.....I just had to vent about this because I couldn't believe what I was hearing and seeing the past two nights...... I discovered that Lance Armstrong is the most unlikeable person I have come across in a long time.

WW week in review..

Hi friends!! Earlier this week I changed my weigh in day to Fridays instead of Mondays.....
Why? My thought is during the week I will be eating at my best and my hope is that when I weigh in on Friday it will encourage me to continue throughout the weekend!
Things I learned this week:

1. Portion Sizes are deceiving....... For instance a baked chicken breast is 3 points BUT the SS is 1/2 the breast. So I will need to check and double check everything.
2. I learned that my morning 2 cups of coffee with Fat Free Half and Half and 1 tsp of sugar is only 1 point! SCORE
3. I learned that it is going to take time for my stomach to get the memo that things have changed!
4. WW One Pot Meals.......
This cookbook is amazing!! There are chapters for crock-pot, casserole, dutch oven, dessert and more! I have "tagged" over 50 recipes to make and I think Matt will enjoy them also! You should check it out!
 5. I learned that this is a wonderful go-to afternoon snack.....this plate is ONLY 1 point! So I plan on eating this until I am burned out!
 6. I also learned that salads are 0 points. (dressing, EVOO or whatever is 2 points and under). Since salads are 0 points it will be the perfect side to help fill me up with no added points! I am sure I will get tired of that too one day but for now it works!
7. We all know how much I love dessert and I found a link to the Hungry Girls WW desserts all under 5 points and all in ONE place, you can check it out HERE! Enjoy!
Ok, so I did weigh in this morning and it is hard to be "too" excited because I feel like anyone can fluctuate during the day do to water weight, meals or even sodium BUT with that being said I will share with you what my scale said......
I weighed Monday when I started and I am 176 (eek! Don't judge)
And this morning I was down 2.6 pounds = 173.4
So there it is friends! I am encouraged but mostly I am encouraged by everyones support and kind words! Thank you all! If you are loosing weight with me leave me a comment and tell me/everyone your progress! I will try to come up with a link-up at some point but for now just leave a comment and if you have a blog put your link in the comment so all my readers can view the comments and visit your blog!

Few of my Favs.....

Ok Ok we all know I love me some TV and when I was doing my "2012" year favs I forgot TV!! And I am sure you have been on pins and needles waiting for this list! HAHAHA!!
These shows are also on now as well and if you're not watching them you should.
* Parenthood
How in the world has this show not been nominated for an Emmy or Golden Globe? This show makes me want to be a Braverman SO bad....sure they have fights and drama (it is TV) but a group of siblings and their spouses all being close like that is amazing! Every single week this show evokes emotion and it is perfection. You can see yourself in any of these characters and the situations are "real life"...I can not express how much I love this show.....if this show ended I might shed a single tear!
 * Nashville
This show is pure fun! And coming from me a girl who does not like Country music that is saying a lot....I have even downloaded the soundtrack! I LOVE Connie Britton, I think she is so stunning and Hayden is the perfect girl you love to hate. Matt loves this show too!
 * Chicago Fire
I LOVE this show, each character is so likable (and good looking) and everyone has their own story line that all fits into the could you not like it? I also love that the situations are very real life and this is a drama but they throw in a little comedy every now and then! This is my favorite "new show"
* Vampire Diaries
Oh Vampire Diaries how I love thee! They will always be my FAVORITE vampires and each week is filled with craziness...there is never a dull moment! I have loved this show for 4 years and if you're not watching you are MISSING out!!! By the way I am Team Damon!
 * Walking Dead
And the winner for my favorite show is The Walking Dead! I love love this is the perfect mix of stress, emotion, gore, action and crazy story lines! This show is groundbreaking and I think they have lead the way for all the new "Horror-like" shows that are on the air or are coming out soon! I am counting down the days to February when this show is back from hiatus!
Runners up:
Arrow, Revenge, American Horror Story and the new show Deception!
What are your favs????

Hi Friends, sorry I have been MIA......not only am I on my third day with WW but I have had a migraine everyday this week. It completely blows, I would do ANYTHING to never get a migraine ever again. Literally.
So far this week I am hungry, hoping that my stomach will get with the program this week and shrink already! HAHA! This week my recipes have been different because Matt is out of town, so they are mostly vegetarian and mostly just veggies. When Matt is home I will be making more recipe-type meals.
For lunch I am starting with the Smart Ones frozen meals to ease into the change, I dislike all frozen meals so I am hoping I can learn to like them. Here are a few things I have/will eat this week......

* Quinoa stuffed acorn squash from Martha Stewart and green beans. HERE

* Barefoot Contessa roasted winter veggies (last night) and the left overs will become her winter soup tonight made with no cream........ HERE

* Baked chicken breast with steamed asparagus toped with a poached egg. HERE

* Portobella burger with whole wheat bun. Here and I a going to make baked Kale chips with this.

So there are some ideas if you want to check them out!! I have unsweet tea which is 0 points, coffee with 1 tsp of both cream and sugar is barely 1 point which is nice. So I think I am starting out ok, if I could just get rid of my migraines!

Star Power...

Hi Guys! Monday already??? Where did the weekend go? I didn't do much of anything but it just flew by. One thing we did do is go see Zero Dark Thirty, I have been waiting for this movie for months. Anticipation can be a let down when it comes to waiting to see a movie...but this did NOT disappoint! This movie is incredible, from the moment it started we couldn't tear our eyes away. It blows my mind how this incredible puzzle was put together and by a woman. It is amazing that a young woman is the reason OBL was found! Also amazing is that this movie was written, produced and directed by a woman. This is a great example of how we (as women) can do anything....honestly. This is a 3 hour drama, I loved every minute and I would go see it again! Matt loved it too..... On a side note.....Jessica Chastain is so stunning, absolutely beautiful!
Here is the trailer............

Moving on..............
Last night was the Golden Globes which are always fun to watch and who doesn't like to pick their own best and worst dressed list?? I will pretend for just a minute that I am on E! Fashion Police!! Here is mine!!! Let's start with worst......
Sorry G, but this does not do it for me.........I don't like high neck gowns......
Yes, she is a fellow OU alum (Boomer Sooner) but this dress and accessories make no sense to me......
Halle, we get are older than most of these girls and your body is banging but stop. This looks like she got into a fight and half of her dress was torn off.....put your leg back in.
And again, JLO I get are stunning and I would kill for your body but I am over the skin tight, see-thru look.........Your shocking we get it. When she was on stage last night this dress really was sheer everywhere there is no white.
 No words............
This one makes me sad, I love love her but are the "pockets" on her boobs used to catch crumbs from dinner? I don't like anything about this look! Her hair, the earrings and the dress looks too low, like at any minute if she sits up her boobs will pop out!
Now BEST! There were a lot of dresses I liked but here are a few of my favorites!
I think the hair makes Anne look so classic and stunning. She looks like a porcelain statue and I mean that in a good way! Beautiful........
I love this look......she is young and this dress with her hair down suits her perfectly! She looks like an angle .....The detail that you can't see in this pic is amazing!
I mean I can only hope I look this good one day! This dress is age appropriate and stunning! I love everything about this..........
My best is Keri Washington....and this picture does not do this justice, last night when I saw her on TV this dress is amazing! I am not into the hair so much but I am obsessed with this dress! Gorg....
Naomi Watts looks so pretty, I think this is perfect for January and even though she is all covered up she is so stylish and sexy! Love her.........
Did you see Zero Dark Thirty? And?? Did you see a dress you loved or hated????
